1st time training under coach chan

06.05.2010

after so many weeks of disappointments, i decided to train under different menus, different and different people. of course i have mentally prepared to suffer, as i know coach chan is one of the fantastic coach in klang valley who always makes people suffer, haha...

i arrived kampung pandan sport complex at 6.15pm, i met jack toh and lee weng khong for a light warm up for 3 rounds while waiting for coach to come. coach asked us to warm up with alternate fatlek and jog. the training started where we had to do 4 sets of 400m within 2'30 INCLUDING REST! i was shocked and surprised, how was i going to have enough rest before continuing next set? they told me just follow them and did not need to go so fast because there a lot more to go, these 4 sets of 400m were just warm up.

the nightmare came when 4 sets of 1000m started, coach chan did not know how my standard was so he asked me to start off with 4'10. by following weng khong i managed to do 3'55 for the first set, it was absolutely tough to follow someone. the tougher one came when he required everybody to run 5 seconds faster compared to first set, serious?! i almost exhausted in the first set, but due to the pressure i was 8 seconds faster than first set. wow! then third set must be 2 seconds faster compare to second set, how was i going to do that again? i maintained my pace in third set and 4th set was the toughest, i had to bite mt teeth hard and never think of others, i had to just run my best, just 100m to go, weng khong came from behind overtaking me whereas i was in maximum speed.

then continued with 400m times 4 sets with 2'30 including rest again. oh... almost fainted now! because of these were the last 4 i would try my best to finish it. however after these 4 sets, we still had another set of 400m which was all-out set. i did 1'18 and it was PB in all my training session and it was in such fatigue state, i thought it was fantastic because i realised that i had potential but need to explode it out.

the training finally over! we did one round of cool down and stretching before rain was coming. first day? not bad, i could still survive! i would say training under coach chan is not easy, the pressure he gives is way way worse than those training others give. i could feel the tense of my body and mental. all these tenses need to be overcome just like jack toh and weng khong do. coach chan said i have a fantastic runnning style, forefooted, great speed and power, just that have to wake those up and keep improving it. actually what i have been doing was still not enough because i did not practise under fatigue state. if i could overcome the pressure in training certainly can do well in races.
